Social Security in Pohnpei
by:

COMMON PROBLEMS

Many of the people that come to the Pohnpei Office with an FSM Social Security problem need to establish the "next of kin" of a deceased relative so the family can receive benefits.   FSM Social Security usually requires a court order naming the next of kin so this means that a petition has to be filed with the Pohnpei Supreme Court.

The second most common problem is benefit payments that have been cut off because Social Security has been told that the person who was receiving benefits has remarried.  Sometimes there are other reasons but remarriage of the person receiving the benefits is the most common.

IF YOUR BENEFITS HAVE BEEN STOPPED AND YOU FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT RIGHT YOU MUST FILE YOUR APPEAL WITH THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF SOCIAL SECURITY WITHIN TWO MONTHS.  IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOU LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO APPEAL.

If your benefits have been reduced or cut and you can not file your appeal by yourself you should contact Legal Services right away.

A closely related problem is wages that employers have not reported to Social Security.   If you think that your wages are not being reported to Social Security by your employer you should contact either Social Security or Legal Services.
